Goodbye Mama

Today was a very sad morning for us. We were getting ready for a bicycle ride and almost ready to head out. Lucie had been calling one of our cats, Kai Tai, and hadn't seen her. I didn't know she hadn't been in for breakfast, and neither of us realized she was out last night. She was not responding, unlike her to do that, and I wanted to take a  minute to try to spot her. I walked out front and as I came around the corner saw here lying the grass. She was still, I knew it as soon as I saw her. She hadn't survived the night.

Kai was a pretty girl who had been adopted by a friend of the bike shop. That person named her Charlotte, and she was NOT a Charlotte! When she ended up coming to stay at the shop we renamed her Kai Tai to reflect her Siamese looks. She was there for a few months until the manager decided to get rid of her. The options were go to the local crazy cat lady or Lucie would take her. Lucie adopted Kai and the rest is history.

We believe she was really a burmin with beautiful blue eyes. The ASPCA determined she had in fact been a mama kitty at one time. Kai found her place in our world of cats and became a fixture in our lives. She was a great kitty for sitting in your lap. She also had a habit of rolling on her back and showing her largeness to you!

One night while we watched animal planet they had a show with baby kittens on it. Kai heard those kittens and went nuts trying to find them! She was pawing at the screen, calling to them and even looked behind the TV to see where the kittens who needed here were. Sad, but in a really beautiful way.

She also adopted the Beau Bunny when we got him. She would sit next to his cage or on it. He was definitely her newest kitten. Another time I heard rattling in my office and went to see what was going on. There I found Kai in the trash can, just looking around. When I came in she looked up as though to say, "What? This is not weird."

The big girl lived the last 9+ years with us and was pampered as all of our cats are. She gave back as much love as we gave her , over and over. Kai was a great kitty and we already miss her horribly!! I have no doubt that she is surrounded by kittens in the afterlife right now.
