Short day on the LMF, but good
I got a late start and arrived around 2PM today ready for some trout fishing here in Beaver's Bend State Park on the Lower Mountain Fork River. Stopped at Three Rivers Fly Shop to pick up a couple of flies and a few goodies. After getting started later than expected I hit the river and got to some fishing.
I headed down to the Bluffs by way of the Evening Hole. I worked a few spots in the EH and didn't really have anything happening there and realized how different the river looks there. Not sure if it is better or worse, but definitely different. The upper half of that section is very different than before.
Once at the Bluffs I found more people than I had hoped to find, but there was a little room I could fish. And then after about half an hour I got to fish the section I wanted and was really loving it. It is one of my favorite places to fish anywhere.
I always seem to zone in really hard on the fishing in this section for some reason. The fish there are really finicky and it takes a lot of hard work to figure them out and catch them. I started out with a nymph rig with two flies and was moving down the river. I found a nice native rainbow who attacked the PT nymph on my leader. He was a beautiful wild fish with vibrant, strong colors and tons of spots and fins that were not worn. The tips of the fins were full and tipped with white. I didn't get a picture of him and I regret that. But he went back to fight again.
I am ready for tomorrow and more fishing on my favorite river. This is such a beautiful place and a wonderful fishery that I totally love. There are so many reasons to be here enjoying this area and taking part in nature, how do people not get out and enjoy nature and the outdoors?
Tomorrow I will shoot pictures and some video to in some way attempt to express how amazing this area is.
Sunday I am heading up to the Blue River in Oklahoma with Merc for a day of fun on the little Blue for some different trout fishing. I have been there before but not in quite a long time. It should be a blast, especially with Merc. We will undoubtedly have a great day!
